On February 4th, 2022 China (Shenzhen) Fintech Global Summit was held in Shenzhen as a significant part of the 1st Shenzhen International Fintech Festival. Focusing on the theme of “Innovative Financial Technology, Serving High-quality Development”, the Summit was co-hosted by Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Local Financial Supervision, Hong Kong Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, Macao Monetary Authority, etc., and gathered domestic and foreign guests and media representatives from national ministries and commissions, regulatory departments, colleges and universities, industry associations, financial institutions and technology companies. Zhuo Zhi, President of SWUFE, attended the Summit and communicated with the guests during the “Roundtable Dialogue” in the main venue.
During the Dialogue, Zhuo Zhi had an in-depth discussion with Wang Zhongmin (former Vice Chairman of the National Council for Social Security Fund of the People’s Republic of China and former President of Northwest University), Li Shanmin (Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University), and Zhang Xiaohong (Vice President of Shenzhen University) on the topic of “Fintech Talent Cultivation”, focusing on the characteristics of and achievements made by SWUFE in cultivating fintech talents. Zhuo Zhi introduced the disciplinary construction of fintech, talent training and the integrative development of industry and education of SWUFE, and voiced and expressed his opinions. He pointed out that Southwestern University of Finance and Economics is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education and known as “China’s Financial Talent Pool” with remarkable disciplinary advantages in finance and distinctive characteristics in talent cultivation. Along with the surge of digital economy and fintech wave, SWUFE takes the initiative to adapt to, grasp, and lead the “New Finance and Economics”, implements the strategy of “Forging New Liberal Arts, Leading New Finance and Economics, and Creating New Advantages”, and constantly promotes the strategic upgrading of “New Finance and Economics”. SWUFE has made a series of achievements in fintech and related fields, and had its financial technology innovation capacity improved significantly by vigorously laying out platforms of fintech innovation, carrying out fintech academic research and innovation, promoting the disciplinary, major and course construction of fintech, innovating the interdisciplinary and integrated training of fintech talents, running the Fintech Chengdu 80 Competition, etc. The quality of SWUFE’s talent training is constantly improving, and its fintech graduates are very popular in the job market, which has laid a solid foundation for and given full force to its high quality development. Meanwhile, SWUFE has been serving the national economic and social strategy and development with relevant achievements and talents actively. Zhuo Zhi emphasized that the innovation and development of fintech should rely on the systematic interaction of education, science & technology and talents to promote the deep integration of innovation chain, industrial chain, and human resource chain.
At the main forum of the Summit, a simple certification cooperation confirmation ceremony was held for the Level I Certificate of Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao FinTech Professional Programme. On behalf of SWUFE, Zhuo Zhi joined the Certification System together with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, Jinan University, etc. And as a highlight project of fintech talent training in the Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao FinTech Professional Programme has achieved initial success after preliminary construction, and become an important attempt for universities to explore a new mode of fintech talent training, providing high-quality talents for the development of fintech in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao.
After the Summit, Zhuo Zhi also visited Shenzhen alumni representatives and had discussions with them. The alumni representatives spoke up, recalled their study in SWUFE, gave an account of their current work and life, and put forward their expectations and suggestions for the growth of SWUFE. Zhuo Zhi introduced the development of SWUFE in recent years, especially in 2022, the spirits from the Fifth Session of SWUFE’s 13th Party Congress, and the brief situation of its preparation for marking the 100th anniversary. He showed care and concern to the alumni representatives, hoping they can stay true to their original purpose, work energetically, win a greater glory for SWUFE, and make greater contribution to the development of Shenzhen and China.
